Sun 29 Dec 2019 13:00
Bob Lamb has been awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire for services to the Preservation of Traditional Skills and voluntary service to Sport in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, in the New Years Honours list.
Bob has given a lifetime of service to tennis in South Yorkshire. He has been the driving force behind Mexborough TC for many years, ensuring the club has survived when other clubs in the area ceased to exist and continued to provide opportunities for people to play tennis.
Bob has a long standing association with the Sheffield & District LTA. He was President of the league in 1991, and also won the May Medal in 1989. He is a very long serving member of the Management Committee and was also the League Secretary for many years and developed a reputation for running the leagues in a quiet and efficient manner. He also contributed a huge amount through sourcing and engraving the league trophies through his work as a Silversmith. His unassuming manner has made him universally popular among the Sheffield & District tennis community.
Bob also served as President of Yorkshire LTA from 2013 to 2015 and played a very active role contributing to the wider development of tennis in the county.
Bob has been an outstanding servant of tennis in South Yorkshire and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the British Empire Medal. Everyone involved in the Sheffield & District LTA will join in congratulating him on the award.
